JUNETEENTH WALK

Chicago, IL

Friday, June 19, 2026

The Justice Journey Alliance Leadership Foundation of Chicago (JJALFOC) has a mission to offer opportunities for people of all races to come together to address race relations and social injustices, with the goal of reaching an ever-increasing population divided by race and injustice. It is our hope to develop a movement for justice and equality, uniting leaders to abolish injustice.

In 2024, JJALFOC partnered with Unity Unlimited to bring Opal’s Walk for Freedom to Chicago. It was Ms. Opal Lee who helped to make Juneteenth a national holiday.

In 2025, JJALFOC expanded its effort to continue the walk and named it the iMAGINE JUSTICE JUNETEENTH COMMEMORATIVE 2.5 MILE WALK. The purpose of the Juneteenth Commemorative Walk is to acknowledgeeducateempower, and unite all Americans by celebrating freedom and honoring the legacy of enslaved people in the United States known as Juneteenth. Enslaved people were declared free under the terms of the 1862 Emancipation Proclamation.

Again, the walk was a success. Among all the Juneteenth celebrations held throughout Chicago, ours stood out as one of the most diverse. Christians, Jews, Muslims, Black, White, Hispanic and Asians participated, children, teens, college students and seniors walked side by side - a point of great pride for our organization.

This year JJALFOC would love for you to partner with us as we work to continue this tradition.   You can help us build a lasting legacy of justice, equality, and harmony, with future leaders and alliances as we continue our mission to eradicate injustice and build a more equitable society.

MISSION

Our mission is to educate, empower, and unite all Americans in the celebration of our shared bond of freedom. We honor this through the recognition, observance, education, and historic preservation of Juneteenth in America.

PURPOSE

Proceeds benefit the community service programs of JJALFOC, the National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, DC, as well as the production and distribution of literature to educate the country about Juneteenth.

WALK Route

Starting/End Point: 31st Street Beach, north to 18th St., and back to 31st Street Beach.
